Ford is recalling roughly 41,748 vehicles because of a defect in certain headlight assemblies that federal regulators say can cause a loss of exterior lighting and increase the risk of a crash, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said.
The recall covers 2025–2027 Ford Expedition models and several 2026 Super Duty trucks: the F-250 SD, F-350 SD, F-450 SD and F-550 SD, according to the NHTSA recall notice. The agency said the assemblies may contain a contaminated LED chip that can lead to a failure of daytime running lights, parking lights, high beams or low beams.
“The headlight assemblies may contain a contaminated LED chip, which can result in a loss of daytime running lights, parking lights, high beams or low beams,” the NHTSA said in its notice. The agency added, “A loss of exterior lighting can reduce visibility, increasing the risk of a crash.”

Owners who experience an inoperative low-beam or high-beam headlamp may also see a dashboard warning lamp, the safety report says. Dealers will inspect affected vehicles and replace the headlight assemblies if necessary at no cost to owners.

Ford is expected to begin mailing owner notification letters on Oct. 26, the notice states. Until repairs are completed, drivers who notice any exterior lighting failure should take appropriate precautions for their safety and that of other road users.
