FARC congratulate Chávez on election win
Colombia´s FARC guerrillas have sent a special message of support to Venezuelan President, Hugo Chávez in celebration of his victory at the national polls last Sunday.
In an official communiqué from the marxist rebels´ central secretariat, the group, which Washington labels ´narco-terrrorists´ sent the following note to the socialist president:
Commander, the mountains of Colombia awake to the bright dawn of the people´s resounding victory at the polls.
The example of democracy magnificently displayed during election day is a milestone in the history of participation and the decision of a people in the conduct of their own destiny.
Our America embraces the warmth of peace that both Venezuela and Colombia needs.
Receive our congratulations, you our brothers of Venezuela for a healthy and transparent electoral process. Our special embrace to our Bolivarian compatriots who with determination and conviction, against all odds, against the advanced imperialist and neoliberalist world, carry forward the political and social project of our Father Liberator.
The language is typical of the rhetorical flights of fancy we associate with the FARC.
Ex-President Álvaro Uribe has labelled Chávez an accomplice of the FARC, and when in government took evidence of the group´s presence in Venezuelan terrority to the Organization of American States, arguing that Chávez was providing safe-houses, and active support.
Piedad Córdoba, leader of the Marcha Patriotica, the group expected to form the eventual political platform for demobilized guerrillas (following a successful conclusion of the peace talks starting next week), was seen in Venezuela last week lending support to Chávez´s campaign.
