Britt McHenry steps down from State Department role after basketball altercation

Former ESPN reporter Britt McHenry resigned Friday from her post as a State Department press adviser after an on-court altercation at an NBA game this week, ABC News has learned.

Video circulating online shows McHenry appearing to throw a drink at another person during Wednesday’s Washington Wizards vs. Milwaukee Bucks game, and TMZ obtained footage that appears to show her being escorted from the stands at Capital One Arena following the incident.

McHenry was appointed to the State Department role last month. A State Department official declined to comment on McHenry’s exit, telling ABC News it was an internal personnel matter.

ABC News was not immediately able to reach McHenry for comment about the incident or her resignation.

McHenry previously worked as a reporter for ESPN. In 2015, ESPN suspended her for one week after a video showing her berating a clerk at a towing company went viral.
