Nestlé Chief Executive Officer Philipp Navratil told Business Insider he drinks unusually large amounts of coffee as part of his daily routine, saying he typically has “at least” eight cups a day and often reaches five cups before 10 a.m. Navratil, who leads the company behind more than 30 billion‑dollar brands including Nespresso and DiGiorno, described his habits, sleep routine, and why coffee matters to him in a Business Insider conversation.
Top morning priorities
Navratil said he starts the day with water to rehydrate and then switches to coffee, which he said he “looks forward to.” He told Business Insider he prefers his coffee black, cold, and without sugar, and only recently began experimenting with decaffeinated options. On the amount he drinks, Navratil said, “Before 10, I would have had five cups for sure,” and added that he typically consumes “at least” eight cups every day.
The CEO said he tries to get eight hours of sleep each night despite his caffeine intake, though he acknowledged that does not always happen. Navratil told Business Insider he usually wakes around 6:30 a.m. because he feels he is most productive in the morning and aims to get his most important work done before lunch. “I’m better in the morning,” he said.
Navratil also described his evening routine: he often has a final cup after dinner, typically an espresso that may be decaf, and characterized coffee as more of a psychological pleasure than strictly a stimulant. “I really enjoy coffee,” he said. “I just like the flavor.”
