Kayem Foods Inc. has voluntarily recalled about 1,584,361 pounds of ready-to-eat meat and poultry products after a warehouse cooling failure raised concerns about temperature abuse during storage, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) said. FSIS classified the recall as a Class I action — its highest level — saying there is a “reasonable probability” that consuming the affected products could cause “serious, adverse health consequences or death.”
The recalled items, produced between March 31 and Oct. 7, include a range of hot dogs, bacon, smoked brisket, ham and chicken sausages sold under several labels. Kayem Foods provided a nine‑page list of specific products affected; among the examples named in FSIS’s announcement were Kayem Beef & Pork Hot Dogs, Kayem Double Smoked Thick Cut Bacon, Kayem Slow Smoked Beef Brisket, Genoa Hot Ham, Al Fresco Roasted Pepper & Asiago Chicken Sausage and Triple M Boneless Ham Steaks.

FSIS said the products bear establishment numbers “EST. M/P 7839,” “EST. P 20935A” and “EST. M 9520” inside the USDA mark of inspection. The agency warned that some affected items may still be in consumers’ refrigerators. The products were shipped to retail and foodservice locations across the United States and to Hong Kong, according to FSIS.

The recall followed a retail customer complaint on Oct. 1 about warm product temperatures at the point of delivery, FSIS said. Kayem investigated and determined that various ready‑to‑eat meat and poultry products had been stored in a warehouse cooler that experienced temperature deviations. Kayem told regulators the deviations resulted from a cooling‑system malfunction at one of its warehouses; the company said it has corrected the issue and is conducting the recall “out of an abundance of caution,” according to the FSIS notice.

FSIS’s Class I designation indicates the agency believes there is a reasonable probability of serious health consequences if the products are consumed. The notice also said there have been no confirmed reports of illness linked to these products. FSIS urged anyone concerned about a possible illness to contact a healthcare provider.
Consumers who have purchased any of the listed items are advised not to eat them. FSIS directed consumers to throw the products away or return them to the place of purchase. To determine whether a specific product is included, shoppers can check packaging for the USDA mark of inspection and the establishment numbers cited in the agency’s announcement.
The recall announcement and lists of affected products were released by the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service and made public by Kayem Foods Inc., as reported by news outlets covering the recall. FSIS typically posts recall details on its website and updates records as investigations proceed.
